Board Certified, American Board of Ophthalmology
Glaucoma and Cataract Specialist
Dr. Ian Danford is a fellowship-trained glaucoma specialist and comprehensive ophthalmologist with training in minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) and complex eye procedures such as iris repair and scleral-fixated intraocular lenses.
Dr. Danford developed an interest in ophthalmology while in medical school after joining a group of surgeons with the Himalayan Cataract Project in Ethiopia. There he witnessed hundreds of patients be cured of blindness from severe cataracts. This experience solidified his desire to become an eye surgeon. It inspired him to spend an additional year in medical school to receive a master’s degree in translational and clinical research focusing on the genetics of glaucoma.
After graduating from medical school, Dr. Danford completed his residency at the Casey Eye Institute at Oregon Health and Science University. He worked with many incredible mentors and developed his passion for caring for patients with glaucoma and other advanced eye conditions.
Dr. Danford continued his training after residency as a clinical fellow in glaucoma and advanced anterior segment surgery at the Moran Eye Center in Salt Lake City. During his fellowship, he had the remarkable opportunity to learn a wide range of complex procedures from renowned surgeons, including Craig Chaya and Ike Ahmed.
Dr. Danford and his wife Sarah (a nurse practitioner in Gresham) have a special interest in healthcare outreach and strive to provide care for underserved populations locally and globally. Together they have taken part in local medical outreach efforts, as well as in Ethiopia, El Salvador, Mexico, and the Navajo Nation.
Dr. Danford likes to explore the Pacific Northwest with his wife and their three young children in his spare time.
