Dr. Amy Tong was named one of Portland’s Top Doctors in 2021 by Portland Monthly Magazine.
Dr. Amy Y. Tong is a cornea specialist. Her particular clinical interests include diseases of the cornea and corneal transplant surgery, complex cataract surgery, and refractive surgery. Her practice also includes comprehensive ophthalmology and she cares for patients with a wide variety of eye conditions.
Dr. Tong completed her undergraduate studies in biology at Duke University, graduating magna cum laude. She subsequently attended the Duke University School of Medicine, where she obtained her M.D. degree. She completed her medical internship at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, in San Jose, CA, and then returned to Durham, North Carolina, to complete her ophthalmology residency at the Duke Eye Center. Dr. Tong went on to complete a fellowship in cornea, external diseases, and refractive surgery at the University of Michigan’s Kellogg Eye Center.
Dr. Tong loves getting to know her patients and working together as a team to improve their vision. She credits her grandmother, a Professor of Ophthalmology in Kunming, China who still continues weekly clinics at the age of 84, for having inspired her with her love of ophthalmology as well as her dedication to patient care.
While working with patients is what she enjoys the most, Dr. Tong has also published multiple articles and presented at many national and international meetings in the field. She is an active member in the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and the Cornea Society.
In her spare time, Dr. Tong enjoys traveling, hiking, salsa dancing, and spending time with her husband, and their cat, Oliver.
